Hi Andy,

I'v tried all your links and they work fine in IE7 & 8 and FF3.0 & 3.5. To view these links the visitor must be running FP 10 in their browser. As far as we can tell the HTML Snippets you have inserted are set up correctly. Without knowing the Flash Player version, Browser type or version it's difficult to say why they cannot use the link. But if their browser version and Flash Player version are up-to-date then they will have no issue in using these links.

As for being picked up by the Search Engine bots, you could simply add the links directly to your page without the HTML Snippet widget. This would ensure that the links are published in the HTML so they would be picked up by the Search Engines. If all you want to do is add a link to your page, the HTML Snippet widget is probably over-kill. And as you have discovered not assisting SEO.

So I would certainly reconsider removing the snippets and just adding text links to those sites.

Thanks - Comdot

Hi Rick,

Apart from Arial Black which we are still working on all other fonts should be OK. They havent changed for some time so there shoulldn't be an issue with quality. As for linking title text we cannot create links on Graphic fonts. However, a good work around is use an image map over the top of the Title box. You can then link that image map to wherever you want.

Thanks - Comdot

The html widget, is a strange beast really. I suppose it is called what it is because it allows you to enter snippets of html code which is then placed on your site.

However you must also remember that this widget merely sits on top of your flash page, not within it, and as such does not feature in the in the html version of your page, you know the one you get if flash is not enabled like on a works computer. It is this version of your page that is visited by remote bots to index your contents in search engines, and presumably searches of your site by affiliates bots.

Most affiliates give you the option of copying a text link, so a way around might be for you to create your text link, then also insert your html widget link and place it above the text link. In this way any bots will see the text link and index it.

Hope this helps.

Hi Scotland,

We do provide a sitemap file as Scott highlighted above. That sitemap will contain all pages that you have listed as visible to the public. This is not new and has been in use for at least 2 years now. Our software has been publishing site content into the HTML site pages for many years now. We were well aware of the limitations of Flash being read by search engine bots and created a script to scrape all content and publish it and this has been working successfully for our entire customer base. Many of our customers enjoy top rankings in their categories, which is down to their hard work and some of the tools and features we provide to enable SEO on our Flash based sites.

We also place a robots.txt file on the site but the only folders that the file instructs the bots not to search are those containing the Flash software - which would provide no content for them and only raise an error. So bots are not blocked what-so-ever from reading website content.

You may wish to read our SEO guide (available under Help when logged in) or on the main moonfruit.com site, and you may also wish to check our many blog articles on SEO on the Moonfruit Lounge. This will give you a good introduction to what we do for you and what you can do for yourself.

The key things to note are that: while SEO is important, Content is King; SEO can take time - but patience will be rewarded; there are millions of sites added to the Internet every day so to make yours stand out requires good content, incoming links from popular sites and doing some SEO work to help the search engines locate your site and then index it.

Hope that helps.

- Comdot

Hi there! I know I'm not the first & I probably won't be the last person to request this. I really think we've been waiting long enough for an improvement to the current pop-up gallery. It must be years since it's had a make-over - I joined in 2007. I'm aware of all the ways we can customise the current pop-out gallery - but it's no longer powerful enough for the functionality we need as siteleaders. I was wondering ComDot or anyone really could you tell us if there is a planned overhaul of the gallery feature & if so when is it planned for. In the meantime does anyone know of a way to integrate a Lightbox or similar device which we could use in conjunction with our moonfruit sites? (perhaps using the html widget) Thanks I'd really appreciate any feedback you might have.

if nothing is addressed re the gallery issue, I think I may reluctantly have to move my sites elsewhere since they rely heavily on image presentation - one is an artist's website & the other is used for web design & it is vital that the images are viewed at their optimum.

Incidentally, this is not meant to be entirely negative - all the recent improvements & bug fixes are all very welcome so thanks for your continuing hard work.

Ok, thanks for listening - I look forward to a response

Katrine

I mean, 20MB Is the worst i have seen for a free website. You DONT provide external Images (at least i cant find it) nor external music (same). Personally the sitemaker is great and all but thats not good. Im not asking for a memory increase, but im asking to do what all other website builders have, provide outside image storage (insert a link to the picture and it will appear) otherwise i will leave this site for one that has more storage.

Hi Ian,

Does this happen with one site in particular or all your sites? As explained above we have no known issues at present around menus not working. So if you could contact support, we can see what software and app versions you are running, establish which site in particular you are having problems with and inspect your site for anything obvious.

Thanks

- Comdot

Hi Alan,

We are working on that. The WMode we use to support the HTML Widget does some rather odd things.

Hi,

Your websites and account are all fully functional although your account is due on 22nd October. You have three domains you should have renewed when you got our reminder email for each. Two emails were due October 6 and one yesterday (October 19). If you log into moonfruit.com, go to Domains, you will see a renew button under each of these domains. If you take action today then you should be able to renew these without too many problems.

I can see that you did contact us on the 16th to which we replied with information on your domain sarahjaneadams.com which needs amending with GoDaddy. While you may think that your domain is set up correctly, doing an NSLOOKUP provides evidence that it has not been set up correctly:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\walt.GREEKATTIC>nslookup sarahjaneadams.com

Server: mimas.greekattic.local

Address: 192.168.2.4

*** No address (A) records available for sarahjaneadams.com

C:\Documents and Settings\walt.GREEKATTIC>nslookup www.sarahjaneadams.com

Server: mimas.greekattic.local

Address: 192.168.2.4

Non-authoritative answer:

Name: www.sarahjaneadams.com

Address: 146.101.249.107

If you could contact GoDaddy and ask them to explain why they haven't set the A recocord for root domain and get them to change it for you.

We will confirm these details in a reply to your most recent ticket.

Thanks - Comdot
